Tiger Talks About His New Home, 'Backyard' Practice Facility

Posted by topdog 440 days ago Golf News
In a blog entry posted on his Web site, Tiger Woods talked about his new house, and more specifically, the practice facility at that house. Woods says he'll be moving into his Jupiter Island home "pretty soon."

Tiger Woods' house, you might recall, was one he and Elin Nordegren purchased for $40 million in 2006. It's been undergoing a rebuilding-and-renovating process since then, including the installation of a state-of-the-art practice facility. In his blog Woods described it:

"It's phenomenal. Working with my team, I designed the short-game facility and oversaw its construction. It features four greens, six bunkers with different depths and kinds of sand, a video center and a putting studio. If no wind is blowing, the longest club I can hit is a 7-iron. It's also set up so I can hit shots out of my second-story studio."

I can hit shots out of my second story, too, but the last time I tried it my wife threatened divorce and the neighbors called the cops.

It's unusual for Woods to reveal so much about something that is part of his personal life, but the practice facility is a project of Tiger Woods Design. And let's face it, Tiger Woods Design hasn't had a lot of good news lately. Woods knows there is interest in his Jupiter Island estate, and this is a good way to get his design company some headlines.

Another page on Tiger's Web site goes into greater detail about the practice facility, and he also posted multiple photos. Included are these details:

"... 3.5 acres of tournament-conditioned turf and bunkering ... 360-degree sightlines allow this facility to provide Tiger with the opportunity to fine tune his short- and mid-range golf game ... variety of turf species common on the PGA Tour ... allows almost any conceivable shot 150 yards or less ... four distinctively different greens ... facility has a "wedge range," where shots with distances ranging from 85 to 145 yards can be repeated ... from both fairway and rough heights ... the four putting greens (can) be used as a series of different par-3 short courses to simulate practicing for score ... each green has a unique contouring to create many options to practice long, short, straight and breaking putts ... green speeds can be micromanaged to present a variety of tournament-like conditions."

I want one!
