The Barclays Wraps Up Early with Multiple Winners

Posted by topdog 268 days ago Golf News
The winner of The Barclays on Saturday was Dustin Johnson. But Camilo Villegas, Padraig Harrington and Ian Poulter were winners, too, making big moves up the FedEx Cup point standings.

The Barclays wrapped up a day early and just 54 holes in length, finishing before the rains of Hurricane Irene made the New Jersey course unplayable.

The FedEx Cup playoffs move on to Boston next week for the Deutsche Bank Champsionhip and hopefully the weather will be cooperative. The fact that the Deutsche Bank is played Friday-Monday rather than Thursday-Sunday gives Irene an extra day to move through, and the course superintendent an extra day to work on playability.

Johnson won The Barclays by two strokes over Matt Kuchar, shooting 18-under 194 for his fifth career PGA Tour victory. Brandt Snedeker, tied for third, shot a tournament-record 61 on the final day.

Only the Top 100 players in the FedEx standings move on to the Deutsche Bank.

Those who fell out of the Top 100 after The Barclays and won't play the Deutsche Bank are: Bryce Molder, Hunter Haas, Chris DiMarco, Paul Goydos, Nick O'Hern, Matt Bettencourt, Tim Herron, Michael Bradley.

Those who moved inside the Top 100 to get into Deutsche Bank are: Ernie Els, John Merrick, William McGirt, Bill Lunde, Padraig Harrington, Ian Poulter, Chris Stroud, Camilo Villegas.

The biggest climber was Villegas, who entered The Barclays at No. 109, finished tied for sixth, and moved up 58 spots to No. 51. Harrington improved by 44 places and Poulter by 36. Els just made it, moving up 19 places from No. 118 to No. 99.
