Fowler won the Kolon Korea Open, part of the OneAsia Tour, by six strokes over runner-up Rory McIlroy. Fowler had entered the final round leading by four.
"It feels great to have the first win," Fowler said in the post-round press conference. "I played well all week, although I did have to hang in on Friday and post a score. But on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday I had good control of my ball, I drove well, and I made some putts."
How good a tour is the OneAsia? It was started only in 2009, but was organized by the Australasian Tour, Japan Tour and Korean Tour, and golfers from those tours tend to make the fields for OneAsia tournaments. The OneAsia is and unwelcome rival to the Asian Tour, but the Asian Tour has, to this point, maintained its superior status.
In addition to the Fowler and McIlroy, the biggest names in the Korea Open field were Y.E. Yang, who won the tournament last year, plus Seung-yul Noh and Kyung-tae Kim. A quality field.
