Pro Golfer Postpones Wedding at Tour's Request

Posted by topdog 132 days ago Golf News
Golfer Rebecca Flood was supposed to get married on Jan. 6. Instead she was playing in the Women's Victorian Open in her native Australia. Why? Because Warren Sevill, the head of Australia's ALPG Tour, convinced Flood of the importance of supporting the tournament, which was being played for the first time in 20 years .

So Flood, a member of the Ladies European Tour, and her husband-to-be - LET caddie Geoff Artis - postponed their wedding until Feb. 18.

Now that's dedication to supporting your home-country's tour.

"It wasn't that bad, actually, it has worked out all right," Flood told the Sunday Herald Sun. "But don't tell Warren that, I might need something back from him one day."

Flood said that after posponing the original wedding, she and Artis had to find a new venue, and then reissue invitations. But Flood clearly is not a candidate for that "Bridezilla" reality television show - she told the newspaper that rescheduling her wedding hasn't been so bad.

"It gives us a chance to really focus on the golf for the next five weeks anyhow, so it's probably a bit better actually," Flood told the Sun. "There's no interruptions now."

How did trading her wedding for the Women's Victorian Open work out? Well, the original date of her wedding fell on the second round, and in that round Flood shot a course-record 6-under 67. (Flood's playing partner hummed Here Comes the Bride to her as Flood stepped to the ninth tee - it was 3:30 p.m., the time she would have been getting married if not for the postponement.)

Flood finished in third place, three strokes behind the winner.

Here's a Happy Postponed Nuptials to Flood and Artis. Hope you're in the wedding chapel and not on a golf course on Feb. 18.
