Seventy-eight golfers tee off today at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, all hoping to earn playing priveleges on the 2011 Champions Tour. The final stage of Champions Tour Q-School is 72 holes in length, and only the Top 5 finishers get fully exempt status for 2012.
Among those playing are Phil Blackmar, Greg Bruckner, Tom Byrum, Bobby Clampett, Keith Clearwater, Mike Donald, Bill Glasson, U.S. Open winner Steve Jones, Dick Mast, Tim Simpson, Lance Ten Broeck and short-game guru Stan Utley. For baseball fans, Q-School finalist Chris Perry is the son of pitcher Jim Perry and nephew of Hall-of-Famer Gaylord Perry. Another family connection: Brothers Robin Freeman and Jeff Freeman are both in the field. Plus, international winners Peter Fowler, Barry Lane and Mike Harwood are in.
At PGA Tour Q-School, six 72-hole second-stage qualifiers take place this week, three of them beginning Tuesday and three more starting on Wednesday. Duval is playing at the Murrieta, Calif., tournament, which runs Wednesday-Saturday.
